Sketches by Anne’s website has a new look and a new mission. I am enjoying drawing and painting all the things that I love from animals to tea pots to my grandchildren.

I am also once again, doing commission pet portraits only on a limited basis with a twist. I have painted cows, chickens, owls, cats and dogs. See my pet work when you click on Pets, People and Flowers. Most of those pictured were commission pieces, some were  created just because I loved the pose of a family pet. I am not charging for pet portraits. At this time, those who commission work from me are asked to make a donation to the Miles McKennan Foreman Endowment at the Green Dragon Foundation in Lewisburg, PA. Miles tragically died in a car accident at just 17 years old. He was a budding photographer who had won awards for his black and white work. He was also my grandson. He willingly shared his talent with those who were interested in learning from him. In this spirit, I am following his example. Visit anonymousish.com to see the digital memorial for Miles created by his father.

“Just Us Girls” is a whimsical look at animals painted with watercolors and sporting genuine vintage lace and Swarovski crystals or freshwater pearls.

About Anne

Anne credits Sister M. Cecilia (Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy) and Wes Wagner, (Wheeling Country Day School and Oglebay Institute) for giving her training in drawing, perspective and color mixing.  Their approach to learning how to produce art was classic in nature and involved working in charcoal and pencil to learn value relationships.  After that, color was introduced with watercolor, tempera and eventually oils.

After graduating from The Mount, Anne attended Wheeling Jesuit University and Chatham College.  About twenty years ago, she took up her love of drawing once again, after raising a family of six children.  She was juried into Artworks Around Town at that time and has been providing the area with countless works specializing in depicting people and pets.

Anne won the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Poster Contest for Constitution Week, in September, 2008.  Her entry won the state, region and tied for first place on the national level.  Copies were made and are being sold to raise money for the NSDAR. Anne also won first place at Oglebay Institute’s Stifel Center Crosscurrents show, and her painting, “Old Glory,” is now hanging in the DAR ’s Constitution Hall. Anne has won multiple awards in the area and one in Virginia.

Anne currently maintains a space at Artworks, at the historic Centre Market House, Market Street, Wheeling, West Virginia.
